Passion for color 2020 – The new REHAU surface collection

The magic of Iceland

REHAU is bringing the magic of this volcanic island to interior design with Passion for color 2020. The six colors in the collection represent its breathtaking natural scenery, legends as old as time – and the country’s hip capital, Reykjavik, with its buzzing atmosphere. Each color is effective in its own right, can be combined with the others, and offers contemporary design inspiration for anyone who works with interiors.

Last year, REHAU launched Passion for color with its new surface collection. Following in-depth trend analysis, the colours that encapsulate our times are presented under this banner in conjunction with a story – each year resulting in a collection that is absolutely fresh and contemporary, inspiring the work of interior designers, joiners, fitters and other professionals working with interiors. Last year, it was mountain stories that formed the conceptual world of Passion for color. This year, the surface collection draws on the tones of Iceland’s natural scenery, translating them for the furniture world into RAUVISIO glass and acrylic laminate.

Six colors make up Passion for color 2020. Each one can stand alone, but also works perfectly in combination with the others. The spectrum ranges from clear white Neve and the brown tone of Terriccio, through to a dark blueish grey. ‘When it came to developing this colour palette, it was all about choosing shades that are sustainable in design terms’, explains Janette Eberlein, Product Manager for Surfaces at REHAU. ‘The colors are virtually unlimited in their durability, they harmonise with each other and form exciting contrasts.’

With Passion for color, REHAU is living up to its ambition as a design partner to deliver design inspiration to its customers. This involves anticipating the next big color developments and setting its own trends. As well as inspiration, the newly launched Passion for color collection offers an additional benefit to customers: they are provided with a ready-made story that they can use to make the colors tangible for their customers, helping to generate enthusiasm for their designs. ‘Our innovative surface materials combine functionality with durability and countless design options – and we add a trend collection to this wide variety every year with Passion for color 2020’, says Janette Eberlein.

To inspire customers, REHAU has created a series of interior design examples using the new colors. Customers, designers and interior decorators can find inspiration in a wide range of styles at www.rehau.com/passionforcolor: whether you’re going for a Scandinavian touch with light-coloured woods, an industrial-inspired design with metal accents or a minimalist, sophisticated look, Passion for color 2020 gives you the space to show off your creativity.

Decorative designs Neve and Nebbia are available as acrylic laminate RAUVISIO brilliant in high gloss and matt. The product line RAUVISIO crystal features five colors – Nebbia, Terriccio, Menta, Laguna and Atlantico – also in high gloss and matt.

The individual colors of Passion for color 2020

Neve: Radiant – clear – pure

Pure white atop Iceland’s snow-capped mountains, the kind of white that brings out contrasts and gives the world a dreamlike serenity. This color goes perfectly with calm, natural designs featuring wood or wooden décor, but it also creates a dramatic contrast to eye-popping colors.

Nebbia: Neutral – mysterious – subtle

Water molecules swirl, fog covers everything like a veil. Fog blurs the lines between contrasts, creating an atmosphere of mystery. This color goes perfectly with all kinds of styles. Nebbia emphasises industrial design, but it’s also a subtle counterpart to bright colors.

Terriccio: Vibrant – abundant – earthy

Iceland is the land of volcanoes, and its soil is rich in nutrients as a result. Volcanoes represent nature’s power, renewal and the circle of life. This color goes perfectly with black and anthracite, which form a natural unity with this dark brown. Paired with mint or other pastel shades, Terriccio’s gentle metallic shimmer makes it a real trendsetter.

Menta: Natural – refreshing – harmonious

During the summer months, Iceland’s herbs, ferns, lichens and grasses provide splashes of color. Shades of mint evoke the spring – and the wonderful moment when you really feel the days getting lighter and the nights shorter. This color goes perfectly with other pastels, picking up on one of 2020’s key trends. Pastels are gentle on the eye and bring color into a room without dominating it. Menta creates a stylish contrast to a rich dark brown.

Laguna: Nordic – versatile – fluid

Iceland’s Blue Lagoon is a well-known destination, but the island is home to many more small lakes and lagoons, as well. Every body of water is unique, with their very own shape, color and appeal. This color goes perfectly with any shade of grey. Laguna comes into its own alongside silver, light grey, greenish grey, aged wood and asphalt grey. When paired with other colors, the grey takes a step back and provides additional depth.

Atlantico: Mysterious – deep – intense

Iceland is surrounded by the Atlantic, the world’s second-largest ocean. The Atlantic and its seas cover around a fifth of the earth’s surface, connecting continents, offering a home to a diverse array of aquatic creatures – and harbouring no end of secrets. This color goes perfectly with other shades of blue, as the various blues come together to form a harmonious whole. If you’re looking for contrasts, you can pair this dark blueish grey with concrete for a minimalist effect, or with gold for a sophisticated touch.
