Edgebands with an antiviral coating by REHAU
The average person comes into contact with three surfaces an hour, which have in turn already been touched by others. We touch our faces just as often. With every touch, we pick up 30 to 50 % of the organisms that have settled on a surface. REHAU is now providing even more protection in daily life with the latest innovation in its RAUKANTEX health.protect family. In addition to antibacterial surfaces and edgebands, it has now added edgebands with an antiviral coating that is effective against specific viruses to its product range.
Whether it is in a hospital, hotel, restaurant or your own home: wherever lots of people come together in a confined space, there is a risk that diseases will be transmitted via viruses, spores and bacteria. Especially in the current situation, furniture experts, architects and fitters are looking for solutions offering a protective effect that goes beyond just great design and easy processing. The edgebands and surfaces in REHAU’s health.protect range offer specific protection options. Specially coordinated formulations and coatings make these chemically effective against a wide range of harmful bacteria like Staphylococcus or E. coli. At normal humidity levels, more than 99.9% of these pathogens are neutralised by the special additives within 24 hours in comparison to non-treated reference samples.*
REHAU is now providing even more protection with its new innovation: edgebands with an antiviral coating are also effective against specific viruses – and this has been tested according to ISO 21702. The viruses that this special edgeband combats include influenza viruses and SARS-CoV-2. In detail, the edgebands are certified as having the following efficacy:
- SARS-CoV-2_COV2019 Italy/INMI1: 91.87% efficacy after 8 hours, tested according to ISO 21702
- Influenza H3N2 and H1N1: 99.9% efficacy after 24 hours, tested according to ISO 21702
Greater safety does not automatically mean having to compromise on appearance: RAUKANTEX edgebands in the health.protect range are compatible with all current surfaces in the market, always with the customary REHAU quality. Of course, they are also available as our patented laser edgeband, as the functional invisible joint means that there is no opportunity for dirt and other deposits to settle between the edgeband and board.
