REHAU is expanding RAUVOLET to include a recycling collection

Sustainable design for storage space solutions

If furniture manufacturers want to design their products sustainably, they need partners who provide the right components. Such as REHAU. Following the successful market launch of two sustainable edgebands, RAUKANTEX eco and evo, the polymer specialist is now introducing a sustainable model variant for PP tambour door systems: RAUVOLET eco. The base material (PP) used for this variant is 100 percent recyclate, providing the same appearance and feel as traditional systems.

Furniture of sustainable quality – with its interior design solutions, REHAU enables its partners to meet this requirement. The RAUKANTEX eco and evo edgebands were the first step in this area. With the RAUVOLET eco variant, REHAU is now launching a customised option for storage space solutions. The base material (PP) of the PP tambour door systems in the RAUVOLET eco variant is 100 percent recyclate, which means the products are made entirely from post-industrial PP recyclate. The tambour door systems are manufactured from recycled material that REHAU purchases from certified suppliers. In this way, old PP products that would otherwise have reached the end of their usable life are returned to the product cycle. This marks a further contribution by REHAU to the sustainable circular economy. The new variant was presented for the first time in October at the SICAM trade fair in Pordenone, Italy. It will be officially available in early 2025.

Sustainability is part of REHAU’s DNA

“Sustainability is part of our corporate philosophy, which we implement in production and in our supply chains and which is also gradually being incorporated into our product portfolio,” says Stefan Schicker, Head of Product Management at REHAU. “RAUVOLET eco is another building block in our comprehensive sustainability strategy, which also allows us to meet the huge demand from our customers for such solutions.” The sustainable edgeband variants are already a great success. For example, RAUKANTEX eco has been used in one of the world’s most ambitious sustainable construction projects. As part of the flagship UN17 Village project, Rotpunkt Küchen is fitting 536 kitchens – and incorporating edgebands from REHAU. With RAUVOLET eco, REHAU is now taking the next step. The decor of the sustainable tambour door systems can be customised for each manufacturer. To demonstrate the sustainable properties of RAUVOLET eco, certifications such as the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and a product-specific EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) are already being prepared.
